Local Biotech Firm Launches Chocolate-Based Toothpaste

On Wednesday, January 4, a New Orleans BioTech firm will launch its new THEODENT ChocoIate-based toothpaste. The company made national headlines over two years ago with the discovery that an extract of chocoIate was a safe alternative to fluoride in fighting tooth decay

That research is now being marketed as THEODENT toothpaste, which will hit stores shelves this week. THEODENT contains the patented Rennou™, a proprietary blend including a naturally occurring compound found in chocolate. The discovery stems from research conducted in New Orleans at Tulane, LSU and The University of New Orleans. Company founders will discuss their research at a product launch news conference on January 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the New Orleans Bioinnovation Center at 1441 Canal Street.
